35 Years in 2007

The 35th Anniversary Gelbvieh Show was one that will go down in the history books.35th Anniversary celebrations of the Canadian Gelbvieh Association were held throughout 2007. The National Gelbvieh Show and Sale was held at Farmfair in Edmonton. Excellent cattle were exhibited and the sale consignments were of great quality.

Along with the Gelbvieh Open Show, the People's Choice Bull Futurity was held. 61 memberships were sold and ten absolutely awesome bulls competed to become the "People's Choice" Champion Bull. The Champion bull was exhibited by Severtson Land & Cattle and sold in the National Sale as Lot 1 for $8,500 to Dane Ranch.

The 35th Anniversary banquet was held at Northlands with 160 guests attending. Master of Ceremonies, Don Savage, made several introductions and welcomed everyone. George Groeneveld, Alberta Minister of Agriculture and Food, presented CGA President, Diane Panrucker with a congratulatory plaque from the Alberta Government, for Gelbvieh's contribution to the beef industry and wished the organization many more years of success in the future.

The crowd was entertained by Bryn Thiessen, and each Gelbvieh exhibitor at Farmfair this year was presented with a sterling silver lapel pin with their tattoo on it. Also at the banquet, three long time Gelbvieh breeders were inducted into the newly formed Gelbvieh Hall of Honor. They are Ted and Enid Janzen, Darrell Nelson and John Milne; congratulations to these wonderful individuals who helped Gelbvieh become the great breed of cattle that it is today.

No anniversary celebration would be complete without a cake. The past presidents of the CGA that were in attendance 'cut the cake' marking 35 years of success for the Gelbvieh breed.
